Recall Clearance Letter for Volvo XC70...imported July 14. 2009

I brought in a Volvo XC70 without much trouble. Of course, I knew that the car had to stay on the U.S. side for 72 hours. Photocopies of title, etc sent as per instructions to the U.S. side did do squat. The guys at the crossing on the U.S. side might as well be deaf or brain dead...rememeber, you cannot utter anything lest you offend them.
Anyway, after clearing car from the U.S. side , the Canadians were just wonderful..very professional and no hassles...mind you, all pertinent papers in hand do help.

Now comes the horrible side...The dreaded" RECALL CLEARANCE LETTER" and the mighty Volvo Canada....used to be that just an E-mail to Volvocars U.S.A. on their site would get one a letter...no problem. Not any more. The Canadian dealers have made sure that you cannot send an E-mail to Volvo U.S.A. because it requires a U.S. postal code.
As expected, could only contact Volvo Canada via their site and E-mail for customer service. The reply was the classic baloney ...I must take car to closest Volvo dealership and they would examine the car, and authorise Clearance letter.
Went to St.Laurent Volvo in Ottawa and was met by a bloody rude 'Service Advisor'...Just won't listen. Wanted me to make an appointment... said it will take 2 hours of labour to check car out at over $100.00 an hour and even that would not guarantee anything.
My argument was..".I just need a letter stating there are no outstanding recalls against the car...not a Volvo safety test"...they have a form that they fill out with a thousand questions....essentially everything that the car is put together with....I mean everything including the condition of the upholstery...totally irrelevant to the desired request....'.a bloody outstanding recall clearance'. I did not want any warranties honoured since the car has none left. Besides, I had in my possesion what he would punch the PC to obtain to see the vehicle history.
It just happens that I had obtained, from a Volvo dealership in the U.S., a complete history of work done under my VIN no. and it stated that there was nothing that was outstanding..

NO,.no, no, no....the bloody SERVICE Advisor at St.Laurent was not going to listen and told me to go to some other dealership. That made me really mad and I did tell him that I would take this further...they are deliberately antagonising Canadians to make easy money...dare say, also losing future customers....total numskulls.

All told, with what I had in my hand..Vis a vis...warranty history from volvo U.S.A and I dug a Volvo recall clearance from Ford website...since Ford owns Volvo....kind of unusual format on pages....clearly stated no recalls on that VIN no...

I am happy to say, I faxed all that I had to RIV and today, when I called them, they told me that they have accepted my Recall Clearance....
Does that make me glad....The Volvo dealers around here can go eat shit for all I care....Hate people who are deceptive, manipulative and lie right to your face. They also assume that you were born yesterday and know nothing about cars. Frankly, they make a big blunder with their treatment of potential customers. Very sad, really.

I would like to inform transport Canada about these tactics...any one here to help, please respond.

P.S. After all the tests and examinations that the dealer wanted to carry out, if I wanted safety done, that would be another examination and another fee....you see what ticks me.
